Island Thrift and community come together
to fund new dock for the Oak Harbor Youth Sailing program The Oak Harbor Youth Sailing Foundation is a 501 3(c) organization. It was founded by the late Scott Cline and Dave French in 2004. For the past five years donations and OHYS events help to provide funds to maintain the boats and docks. However, the cornerstone of the organization is the volunteer help from instructors and dock helpers making youth and adult sailing lessons available to Oak Harbor and surrounding community residents at a very modest cost. Each summer over thirty volunteers help young sailors learn sailing techniques. The program encompasses the basics of rigging the boat, steering, sailing rules, sail trim, racing rules, and boating safety.
