For the second week in a row, Chad Holcomb, skippering Yeah Dogg, captured first place in the Oak Harbor Yacht Club’s Thursday night sailing series Aug. 17.
Holcomb won both races in the opening fall series competition last week and repeated the performance yesterday.
The boats finished in the same order in both races this week. Following Yeah Dogg were Lucky Jim (Jim McAlpine), Ehu Kai (Bill Walker), Slingshot (Rich Almberg), Gadzooks (Suzie Dupuis) and Toto (Allen Wilson).
“We had excellent breezes, steady at 12-plus knots with gusts to 20, forcing skippers to make tough decisions about which sails to use for the conditions,” Walker said.
One of regular racers, Dave Steckman on Renaissance, did not compete Thursday because he will be competing in the Northern Century regatta out of Anacortes Aug. 18-20. The 100-mile race winds through the San Juan Islands.
OHYC Sail Fleet is open to all sailors every Thursday through the end of September and capped by the Scott Cline regatta on the first weekend of October. Fleet Captain Bill Weinsheimer can be reached at email@example.com
