The Oak Harbor racing season got off to a great start this past weekend with an amazing Toby’s Run! Five boats made it out for this pursuit style race from the Oak Harbor Marina to Toby’s Tavern in Coupeville. Sailors were met with great conditions. The sky was blue, the air was warm, and the beer at Toby’s was cold. A little more breeze would have been great, however, all the boats made slow but steady progress as they ghosted their way through Penn Cove to burst open the saloon doors of Toby's Tavern.
Congratulations to Dave Steckman and the crew of Renaissance as they edged out Gadzooks for the win! Good times were had by all as Toby’s was pretty much taken over by Oak Harbor sailors. A huge thanks to everyone who came out to kick off the race season!
A beautiful sunset cruise back to Oak Harbor followed with several boats riding the west breeze through Penn Cove under spinnaker. A fitting tribute to a sailor we lost this past year. Fair Winds and Following Seas, Billy Wind!
