It’s been a great winter “off season” with many Thursday nights spent in the warm cozy yacht club watching sailing movies and telling even better sailing stories. But with the cold weather, only the heartiest ventured out on the water and good sailboat races were few and far between. Well, the great news is that the sailing season is just around the corner! It’s time to pull out the sailing gear, dust off sails, and prep the boats because March is the month the official sailboat racing season starts here at OHYC! Join us March 7th at 6pm in the Yacht Club for our race season kickoff party. Sail Fleet will be providing pizza as we go over this year’s racing schedule. Byron Skubi will also be giving a presentation on sailboat racing rules as an introduction for beginners and a review for the experienced. So come on out and let’s get this season started! The racing starts two days later with a “Toby’s Run” on March 9. This is our casual fun race from Oak Harbor to Coupeville. Our “Frostbite Series” starts on Thursday night March 14th. For details and entry forms for these and other races, check out the OHYC website under the Sail Fleet tab, or come join us at the Sail Fleet party! Need a sailboat handicap rating? No problem! Talk to us, we can assign you a temporary club rating. Later, once you realize sailboat racing is the best sport ever, we can also measure your sails and boat and get you an official PHRF rating. See you on the water
